HBO has announced that The Last of Us will debut on January 15, 2023 at 9 p.m. EST. Season one will consist of nine episodes with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey leading the way.
The Last of Us is inspired by the popular video game series developed by Naughty Dog and Sony Interactive Entertainment. Part one of the series shot out to incredible success with 1.3 million units sold within seven days while part two sold four million copies in its opening weekend. Screen Gems originally attempted to transform the video game series into a film back in 2014, but plans fell through until HBO picked up the rights to the project.
“From what I’ve seen of the show and what we shot, it’s very true and authentic to the game,” the show’s prosthetics designer, Barrie Gower, told Variety.
“I’m hoping the fans will be over the moon with it and it will spawn a load of new fans who will be introduced to it through the show rather than the video game.”
