Former NBA player Terrence Williams has pleaded guilty to conspiracy and identity theft charges in front of U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni in Manhattan, New York. Williams is the accused ringleader of a scheme that defrauded the NBA Health Plan of at least five million dollars. As a part of the plea deal, he has agreed to pay 2.5 million dollars in restitution to the NBA Health Plan and he will also forfeit $653,673 to the United States government. According to recommended federal sentencing guidelines, Williams could face up to 10 to 12 years in prison with a mandatory sentence of two years because of the identity theft charge. He is scheduled to be sentenced on January 25th, 2023.

This scheme included at least 24 people who have been arrested since it was uncovered, and six have now pleaded guilty. Terrence Williams joins former NBA players Tony Wroten, Jamario Moon, Eddie Robinson, and Chris Douglas-Roberts in pleading guilty to charges. Los Angeles chiropractor Patrick Khazira has also pleaded guilty to the scheme’s charges. Most notably, former NBA players Tony Allen and Glen Davis have pleaded not guilty to the charges. Those cases are still ongoing and will likely take a considerable amount of time to be resolved.
