Terence Crawford’s musical taste may be as great as his boxing skill. On Friday, the sounds of “Mr. Carter” by Lil’ Wayne played as he walked on the stage during the official weigh-in. Nodding his head in confidence, he rapped every word of the classic track. One day later, he stands side by side with one of Lil’ Wayne’s greatest collaborators, Eminem. The sounds of “Lose Yourself” burst through the speakers as the Detroit native offers a statement that would become prophetic just nine rounds later.
“Las Vegas, make some noise for the next undisputed welterweight champion of the world,” Eminem commanded the crowd.
Walking right behind him, Crawford donned an all-Black outfit complete with a “Prime” chain and a fish net. Crawford looked as confident as ever as he made his way to the ring for what would be the best performance of his professional career. The Omaha native knocked down the previously unbeaten Errol Spence Jr. three times before the fight was stopped in the ninth round.
“Like I said before, I only dreamed of being a world champion. I’m an over-achiever. Nobody believed in me when I was coming up, but I made everybody a believer,” Crawford said after the fight.
With a historic performance and memorable introduction, Crawford is now the first male fighter to win undisputed titles in two different weight classes during the four-belt era.
