The Tennessee Titans were the NFL’s worst team in 2015 and winded up dealing the first overall pick later this offseason. The Titans made an odd choice at head coach retaining Mike Mularkey despite his lack of success as a head coach. Should we expect anything different from Tennessee heading into 2016?
3 Position Battles To Watch:
- Wide Receiver: The list is long…..
Dorial Green-Beckham, Tajae Sharpe, Rishard Matthews, Kendall Wright, Harry Douglas, and Justin Hunter make up the group of candidates to start. Giving Marcus Mariota help was obviously the priority the past two seasons. One of these guys probably gets sent packing and it realistically could be anyone of them as they are all very even.
2. Running Back: Derrick Henry vs. DeMarco Murray
For whatever reason this has been a huge debate to see who will start. Marcus Mariota has already said he wants to hand the ball off 40 times a game so it probably doesn’t matter. Fantasy wise I’ll take Henry as is more likely to be the goal line guy.
3. Outside Linebacker: Kevin Dodd vs. Derrick Morgan
Brian Orakpo has one side but the other is between Morgan and Dodd. Both players are unnatural fits for the 3-4 defense. Morgan has been average in his career never having more than 6.5 sacks in a season. Dodd is the teams second round pick from Clemson who is a bit of a one year wonder in college.
Ready To Breakout: Jalston Fowler
Jalston Fowler is a house and will probably become the best fullback in the NFL for the next 8-10 years. In college he blocked for T.J. Yeldon and Derrick Henry at Alabama. Fowler is a converted linebacker who punished defenders. He will be a huge in the blocking game heading into his 2nd season.
Fantasy Sleeper: Delanie Walker
Well we covered most of the offense and for what it’s worth Mariota loves his tight end. Walker quietly had his best season in 2015 with over 1,000 receiving yards. I expect a similar result this year.
Rookie To Watch: Jack Conklin
This is going to be a fun one for me to watch especially. I thought Conklin was over hyped during the draft process and didn’t consider him a first round prospect. Conklin was take 10th overall to be the supposed left tackle of the future. For what it’s worth the Titans used just about every resource they had to help out Marcus Mariota. On the other hand I’m probably the only one who thinks Mariota is a bust, the rest of the world just doesn’t realize it yet.
