Has ‘Suicide Squad 2’ finally found its director? After flirting with Mel Gibson, and getting rejected by Jaume Collet-Serra it appears that the film may have found its new helmer. Variety is reporting that ‘Warrior’ and ‘The Accountant‘ director Gavin O’Connor is in negotiations to write and direct the film. O’Connor boarding the project would be a massive win for the seemingly cursed film. O’Connor has blended high-quality storytelling with action seamlessly in the past and with Warner Brothers seemingly giving him free reign on the project it should be very interesting to see what he comes up with.
This hire does nothing to clear up the ever convoluted line up of DC films, however. Seemingly giving, even more, credence to the idea that we could possibly have two different Jokers gracing the screen at the same time, in multiple timelines, and in multiple films. Leto has privately told sources that he is very unhappy (and understandably so) with the news that Warner Brothers is looking into a Joker origin story that doesn’t involve his interpretation of the character. Only time will tell how this will all play out, but for now at least, ‘Suicide Squad 2’ is back in development and moving full steam ahead.
Stay tuned for more news on ‘Suicide Squad 2’ as it develops.
