Ben Affleck and Warner Bros. have plenty on their plate with Justice League coming this fall. But as reported by Deadline, a sequel for The Accountant (2016) is in the works, with Affleck in talks to reprise his role. The director, Gavin O’Connor, and producers Lyntette Howell Taylor and Mark Williams, are also in talks to return.
The story is said to be heavily based around Jon Bernthal’s character from the first movie. He played a major role at the end of the film.
Affleck’s character in The Accountant is Christian Wolff, an autistic math genius who gets caught up with criminal organizations and the government which forces him to unveil his skills as a tactical assassin. The film grossed over twice its budget, so the studio clearly plans to advance with this action thriller story.
Affleck will play Batman in Justice League, coming from Warner Bros. on November 17 in theaters. He’s slated for The Batman solo movie, which he won’t be directing anymore, so maybe that frees him up to extend The Accountant for the studio. It looks like Affleck will have plenty of work from the studio while taking part in several franchises for the foreseeable future.
