In a seemingly never ending series of leaks and announcements it appears as if Warner Bros. and DC are moving forward with a long rumored ‘Joker and Harley Quinn’ film. This would normally be not that big of a deal but coming on the heels of yesterday’s news about a ‘Joker Origins’ film being developed by Martin Scorsese and Warner Brothers this news is more than a little puzzling. While there has been speculation that the ‘Joker Origins’ would take place outside of the DCEU this news seemingly confirms it. The idea of two jokers simultaneously existing on film is sure to excite some die hard DC fanboys but to the general movie going audience, this would honestly be one of the most confusing things they’ve ever had to wrap their heads around.
Who at Warner Brothers honestly thinks that this is a good idea? There was confusion just last year about the extremely non-confusing existence of ‘Rogue One’. Many members of the general movie going public were legitimately going to see ‘Rogue One‘ as if it was the sequel to ‘The Force Awakens‘ and that movie literally had none of the same characters as TFA and took place before ‘A New Hope’. What evidence is Warner Brothers looking at that suggests this is truly a good idea? Or do they truly just not give a fuck about people being confused because if you slap the Jokers name on something it’s guaranteed to make money. Warner Brothers should be riding a wave of confidence after Wonder Woman exceeded all expectations and is breaking box office records left and right. But, it seems as if they’ve some how managed to remove all the confidence that was gained from Wonder Woman in the eyes of the public by perpetually releasing confusing and just plain awful plans for new movies.
We will undoubtedly be covering this story for the foreseeable future so keep your eyes peeled for updates and new information on the ever changing landscape of the DCEU.
