Pose Co-Creator Steven Canals has signed on to develop a new series at FX called 81 Words. The limited series will be based on the This American Life episode of the same name.
“Until 1974, the medical establishment considered gay people sexually deviant and diagnosed them as mentally ill. 81 Words tells the true story of gay activists Frank Kameny & Barbara Gittings who risked their career & reputation to conspire with the GAYPA – a clandestine group of closeted psychiatrists – and challenge the American Psychiatric Association’s definition of homosexuality,” FX writes.
Canals has agreed to write and executive produce the project. Alex Spiegel, Bennett Singer and Patrick Sammon will also execute produce the project.
Canals’ Pose has also been renewed for a third season.
