The 2023-2024 college football season will not begin until August, but it appears the Texas Longhorns have already found their starting quarterback. As spring football comes to an end, Texas Longhorns Head Coach Steve Sarkisian is confident that Quinn Ewers will be the team’s starting quarterback moving forward.
“I thought Quinn was really efficient today,” Steve Sarkisian said after the team’s annual spring football game.
“I think it’s pretty clear to say that Quinn’s our starting quarterback and we feel very good about that.”
Ewers is part of a talented quarterback group in Austin, Texas this season. After leading the Longhorns to the Valero Alamo Bowl last season, the 20-year-old quarterback has kicked off his next campaign with a 195-yard, one-touchdown performance in the spring game. Redshirt quarterback Malik Murphy also finished with nine completions, 165 yards and one touchdown. Rounding out the quarterback trio, Arch Manning also made his debut in Austin, Texas. The highly-recruited quarterback completed less than 50% of his passes and threw for 30 yards.
The Texas Longhorns will kick off the 2023-2024 season at home against the Rice Owls on September 2, 2023. One week later, Sarkisian will lead the Longhorns into Tuscaloosa for a showdown with the Crimson Tide.
