On Saturday, Showtime and DAZN will come together to broadcast a major lightweight clash featuring Gervonta “Tank” Davis and Ryan Garcia. While many are focused on the main event, some are also interested in another big fight that could be on the horizon. For the last few weeks, some have suggested that Showtime may announce a title fight featuring Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford during the broadcast. On the bright side, Showtime Sports President Stephen Espinoza has said that Spence Jr. and Crawford are working to reach an agreement for the fight. With that said, Espinoza does not believe that an announcement will be made on Saturday’s broadcast.
“Now there’s been the rumor about something happening on Saturday,” Espinoza told Boxing Scene.
“You know, something could happen at any moment. You could have a breakthrough, get things done and signed. But there is nothing planned at this point, as we sit here, for this Saturday. But I’m optimistic that in the near future we’ll have something to announce.”
Additionally, Espinoza has shot down a previous report from Ring Magazine that suggested that the fight would take place on June 17, 2023.
“I think the fact that there’s been so many rumors out there is really an indication that people just want the fight to happen very badly, Espinoza said.
“And oftentimes, people are connecting dots that shouldn’t be connected. You know, TGB [Promotions] and PBC has June 17th on hold somewhere. And that suddenly became, ‘Oh, that must be the date for Spence-Crawford.’ It’s not June 17th. It never was June 17th, and especially now because there’s not enough time.”
