Play Into The Moment: There aren’t too many moments in boxing more special than performing in front of your home crowd. While Stevenson may be fighting in New York, his hometown of Newark, New Jersey will be well represented in the crowd. Dating back to his 2018 bout with Carlos Ruiz, Stevenson has delivered electric performances as a pro when he’s at home. With the ability to feed off of a home crowd, Stevenson needs to come with the same energy that his fellow New Jersey natives will bring.
You’re The Better Fighter, Act Like It: Stevenson enters the ring each time with a quiet confidence. In many ways, he takes from his mentors, Terrence Crawford and Andre Ward. They both know that they are great and will tell you how great they are if you ask, but they don’t necessarily yell it from the top of their lungs. Coming into this fight, Stevenson needs to carry that same energy in to the ring. In Marriaga’s two previous bouts against elite talent, he was outclassed by fighters that not only were better, but acted like it as well. Vasily Lomachenko and Nicholas Walters both had an ere about themselves that led you to believe that they knew just how great they were. Stevenson needs to have that same ere on Saturday.
