Two-division world champion Shakur Stevenson could return to the ring in November. During a recent interview, Stevenson’s promoter, Bob Arum, said the Newark, New Jersey native could return as early as November 16 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“Formula 1 will be on that weekend, and people come in really early to see them practice,” Arum said when asked why November 16 would be an ideal date for the potential return of the lightweight contender.
“So there will be thousands of people in town. We put on a good fight on, we’ll sell it out.”
At the moment, former unified lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko appears to be the most likely opponent for Stevenson. Earlier this year, Lomachenko fell on the wrong side of a hotly contested bout with Devin Haney.
“Shakur is going to fight later this year in a major fight,” Arum said.
“Maybe it’ll be against Haney, maybe it’ll be against [Vasiliy] Lomachenko. I don’t know, but the fight’s going to happen.”
In the meantime, Stevenson will continue to support his fellow training partners, Keyshawn Davis and Terence Crawford. Davis scored the first 10-round decision victory of his career in Oklahoma on July 22. This weekend, Crawford will look to become the first man to win undisputed titles in two separate weight classes during the four-belt era.
