The New York Giants have informed running back Saquon Barkley that they will be placing the franchise tag on him this offseason. With the team getting a long-term deal done with quarterback Daniel Jones, they were able to place the tag on their star running back keeping him with the team. The two sides now have until July to work out a long-term deal. If they do not, then Barkley will make $10.1 million on the tag this upcoming NFL season. New York is hoping to get a long-term deal done to avoid that.

This past season with the New York Giants, Saquon Barkley rushed the ball 295 times for 1,312 yards and ten touchdowns. He also caught 57 passes for 338 yards and zero receiving touchdowns. With a new offensive scheme and a better offensive line, Barkley fully bounced back from his injury and had a spectacular season for the Giants. With both him and Daniel Jones under contract long-term the team will look to build around them.
New York is hoping to build a title contending team around both Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley in the next few years. While they did make the 2022-23 NFL Playoffs and even won a game, they did get demolished by the Philadelphia Eagles in the next round. While the team still has some work to do, this move is a step in the right direction.
