Saba isn’t easily impressed.
The Chicago native adds “How To Impress God” to the growing list of No ID tracks in his catalog. For three minutes and 13 seconds, the living, breathing production of No ID continues to evolve under the weight of Saba’s blunt, commanding verses about the ills of confusing the riches of capitalism with growth and identity.
“I had a year full of tour dates. [The] last [time] I checked, I said I’d never go and change and [then, I] got dressed,” he raps.
“I felt I heard God say, ‘I’m not impressed.’ [I] had opps for press, but I’m not pressed. She said, ‘I love you anyway,’ from my mess. I’m trying to think of s—t to say, so I’d match. Instead, I heard God say, ‘I’m not impressed.'”
“How To Impress God” builds upon the the steady stream of collaborations Saba, Daoud and No ID have put together in recent years. “Hue_man nature,” “Back In Office” and “head.rap” feauring Madison McFerrin, Ogi and Jordan Ward have all showcased different sides of the Chicago artist while pulling together similar themes about self growth, the dangers of materialism and his desire to be the best rapper in the game.
There’s no word as to when Saba and No ID will release their long awaited LP, From The Private Collection Of Saba And No ID, but “How To Impress God” will keep us satisified until it does.
