On August 11, the world will celebrate 50 years of this thing we call Hip-Hop. From Tokyo to New York, dancers, artists, musicians, writers and beyond will take part in the celebration through concerts, parties, workshops and much more. In Brooklyn, the WNBA will take part in the festivities by inviting MC Lyte to perform at halftime of Friday’s showdown featuring the New York Liberty and Chicago Sky. Adding to the night’s celebration at Barclays Center, Brooklyn’s own BreezyLYN will also be in attendance. Throughout the evening, she will join MC Lyte as they take part in the VIP reception, player intros, halftime performance and post-game concert with special guests.
MC Lyte and BreezyLYN are from the only artists taking part in New York’s ongoing celebration of Hip-Hop’s 50th birthday. Over in Queens, the Mets will honor the late, great Ol’ Dirty Bastard by inviting his son, Young Dirty Bastard, to throw the ceremonial first patch. Not to mention, there will be ODB-themed giveaways in and around Citi Field throughout the night. Matching their rivals in Queens, Yankees Stadium will serve as the venue for the grand concert and celebration featuring Lil’ Wayne, Fat Joe, Kid Capri, Run DMC and several other Hip-Hop legends.
