The New York Mets will celebrate 50 years of Hip-Hop on Friday, August 11 by honoring the life and legacy of New York legend Ol’ Dirty Bastard. The late artist’s son, Young Dirty Bastard, will step up to the mound and throw the ceremonial first pitch before the Mets go to battle with the Atlanta Braves. The night’s festivities will also feature trivia and giveaways honoring the late Fort Greene native.
The Mets’ celebration of Ol’ Dirty Bastard is the latest addition to New York’s celebration of Hip-Hop. Elsewhere, MC Lyte and BreezyLYN will join the New York Liberty on Friday night for a halftime and post-game performance. Nearby, The Book of Hov exhibit continues at the Brooklyn Public Library and Salaam Remi will host another edition of the MuseZeuM pop-up series. The day will culminate with a star-studded concert at Yankee Stadium featuring Run DMC, Snoop Dogg, Lil’ Wayne, Ice Cube and many others.
The Mets’ celebration of Hip-Hop and the culture of Hip-Hop will kick off at 7:10 p.m. in Queens. Tylor Megill will take the mound for the Mets and Charlie Morton will step in for the Atlanta Braves.
