The Daily Show Correspondent Roy Wood Jr. has been selected as the lead entertainer for the 2023 White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
The White House Correspondents Association described Wood Jr. as a comedian “who uses satire to shed light on serious topics including race and discrimination in the U.S.” WHCA President Tamara Keith also characterized Wood Jr. as someone who “brings a journalistic eye to his comedy. He’s hilarious — but also makes sure his audiences are thinking as they laugh.”
Wood Jr. is the latest comedian to assume the position of lead entertainer at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Previously, Cecily Strong, Hasan Minhaj, Jimmy Kimmel and Trevor Noah.
“It’s an honor to be a part of a long-running tradition of celebrating those members of the media, who work so hard to uncover the truth, and hold our government accountable,” Wood Jr. said.
“It will be a great night that will go down in the history books, or not, depending on which state you live in.”
The 2023 White House Correspondents’ Dinner is set to take place on April 29, 2023 at the Hilton Hotel Washington in Washington, D.C.
