Multiple outlets have reported that former super-middleweight champions Carl Froch and Roy Jones Jr. are negotiating a potential exhibition bout in Nottingham. Motorpoint Arena and City Ground have emerged as the top locations for the potential bout.
Conversations regarding a potential bout emerged when Froch called Jones Jr. was “shot to bits.” Shortly thereafter, Jones Jr. challenged Froch to a fight to prove that he was “shot to bits.”
“Carl Froch says I’m shot to bits. Well, okay. Show me, show me that I’m shot to bits,” Jones Jr. said.
“Show me, I don’t care. Show me that I’m shot to bits. [Let’s do it in] Wembley Stadium [in front of] 80,000 or 100,000 [fans]. I don’t care. Show me that I’m shot to bits. When you get right, come see me.”
Jones Jr. is a former four-division champion with wins over Felix Trinidad, James Toney, Bernard Hopkins and Antonio Tarver. He last fought in an exhibition in November against Mike Tyson.
Meanwhile, Froch is a former super middleweight champion who defeated Jermain Taylor, Jean Pascal, Glen Johnson and Andre Dirrell. He last fought in 2014 against title challenger George Groves.
No date has been set for the bout.
