NFL free-agent Richard Sherman remains in custody following a string of incidents that allegedly occurred between the hours of 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. on July 14.
At approximately 1 a.m. on July 14, Sherman is accused of crashing his car into a concrete barrier and abandoning it in a nearby parking lot. Soon thereafter, authorities arrived on the scene and searched for Sherman in hopes of having him complete a blood-alcohol test.
Before authorities could make contact with Sherman, he appeared at a home that is believed to belong to his wife’s parents. While there, the Super Bowl winner attempted to gain entry to the home and a verbal altercation allegedly ensued. Shortly thereafter, officers arrived on the scene and attempted to handcuff Sherman. The responding officers have accused Sherman of resisting arrest before he was apprehended and taken to a nearby hospital for a medical evaluation.
Sherman arrived at King County Correctional Facility in Seattle, Washington just before sunrise. Redmond Police Department Chief Darrell Lowe has told reporters that Sherman is potentially facing charges for the following crimes: hit-and-run, DUI, resisting arrest, burglary domestic violence and malicious mischief.
Sherman will remain in custody without bail until he meets with a judge on Thursday. He nor his attorney have issued a public statement regarding the matter. However, his wife, Ashley Moss, did offer public comments on the matter.
“At this time we’re going to make no statements, except he didn’t harm anybody,” Moss told the Seattle Times.
“My kids were not harmed in the incident. He’s a good person and this is not his character. We’re doing alright, just trying to get him out. I want people to know no one was injured.”
