“Who I gotta f to get a new season of severance?” SZA tweeted in 2023.
Nearly two years later, SZA and Apple TV+ around the world will get what they’ve been asking for. On Friday, January 17, 2025, Ben Stiller’s hit series will return to the streaming platform for a new season filled with unexpected twists and turns. As fans prepare to dive into the next chapter of the hit series, here’s what they can expect.
The Basics
Where To Watch: Apple TV+
Starring: Adam Scott, Britt Lower, Zach Cherry, John Turturro
Synopsis: “Mark leads a team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between their work and personal lives; when a mysterious colleague appears outside of work, it begins a journey to discover the truth about their jobs.”
Critics’ Chatter

“Severance goes further, pointing out how the most devastating effect of corporate capitalism is the way it alienates us from what might be the very best parts of ourselves. It makes for a season that’s frequently darker, less frequently amusing and not necessarily more satisfying — but one that hits, if anything, even more chillingly close to home.”

“It’s hard not to love a show this beautiful and human, one that dives into both existential dilemmas and wackadoo dance breaks depending on its mood. Severance strikes such a powerful chord because it’s so successful at pointing out the false idols created by corporate culture. But more importantly, it doesn’t lose sight of what makes life such a strange and profound experience — in or out of the office.”

“It’s taken nearly three years for Severance to come back to us, yet somehow, it’s more relevant than ever. The series follows Mark Scout (Adam Scott), a widower who has his work-related memories surgically separated from his personal memories. Lumon Industries, which pioneered “severance,” promised Mark that the technology would make his life better — but as he and his severed colleagues discovered, the procedure is part of the conglomerate’s unsettling plan to consolidate their control over the global labor force. Now, the lauded Apple TV+ drama from creator Dan Erickson returns with a briskly paced sophomore season that refines its many themes into a timely, rewarding, and challenging debate about the power and parameters of personhood.”

SEVERANCE S2…..beautifully deranged, weirder, darker, BETTER??? It’s on a heater this season. Doesn’t miss a beat in its confident and meticulous approach to this world. Emotionally rich and complex. All of those fun narrative possibilities you only imagined? Buckle up. pic.twitter.com/KCHa12Y3pG

I didn’t write a review of SEVERANCE season 2 but I’ve seen the first six episodes and they are extremely good. The show finds a way to keep the story going without racing to provide answers or feel like it’s stalling. Tramell Tillman proves he’s a star with an expanded role. A+ pic.twitter.com/kxd8bIN0Uu
