Over the last decade, Top Dawg Entertainment has successfully identified and developed talent better than nearly every other label in the entertainment industry. The west coast imprint has given the world music from Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Jay Rock, SiR, Isaiah Rashad, ScHoolboy Q and countless others. This year, TDE introduced its latest signee, Ray Vaughn.
Coming from Long Beach, Ray Vaughn delivers a sense of honesty, humor and lyrical ability that falls in line with TDE stars that have come before him. Nevertheless, his style stands out as he is the youngest member of the label. To get things going, Ray Vaughn delivered a three-track EP followed by one of the best LA Leakers freestyles of the year. Now, he’s back with not one, but two new tracks. Showcasing two sides of his musical abilities, “59 & Bethany” and “Strong” offers a complete view of who Ray Vaughn is and who he can become. “59 & Bethany” speaks to his growth as an artist and a man over the last few years.
“Sometimes I just, you know, sit back and reflect about the times when I was?on?59th and Bethany?when everything was bad. Now look at?me now,” he said in the opening moments of “59 & Bethany.”
In contrast, “Strong” is the TDE freshman’s “city boyz anthem.”
“I don’t trust no h*e alive. If she was born with two eyes, that means she can see two guys,” he raps.
Check out “Strong” and “59th and Bethany” and get ready for more new music from Ray Vaughn in the new year.
