Academy Award nominee Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter and Mick Jagger have signed on to produce a four-part documentary series called Say It Loud for A&E. Directed by Deborah Riley Draper, the four-part series will follow James Brown’s rise from being charged with armed robbery as a teenager to becoming one of the biggest stars in music history.
“The life of James Brown is significant not only to understand his immense musical impact, which inspires us and other artists to this day, but also for the deep and lasting impression he has had on American culture,” Questlove and Black Thought said in a press release.
“Brown’s life is a crucial and timely story of struggle, redemption, and self-identity and we are honored to have the chance to share it.”
Production of the four-part series is set to being this year, but it is not scheduled to air until 2023. The trio hopes to release the project on or near what would have been his 90th birthday.
