Packer Shoes took to their website to officially unveil the Packer Shoes x Reebok Classics x Mitchell and Ness #RememberTheAlamo Heritage Capsule that is set to drop on August 2nd exclusively at Packer Shoes, online and in store. Check it out below…
Not to be confused with the 4.2 acre complex located downtown San Antonio… The Packer Shoes x Reebok x Mitchell & Ness “Remember the Alamo” heritage capsule collection pays tribute to 1996 Western Conference NBA All-Star Shawn Kemp and the pivotal role he played in arguably one of the most entertaining NBA All-Star games played in the history of the annual weekend celebration.
Though the East beat the Western squad 129 to 118, Kemp finished the game with a modest stat line (12 points, 4 rebounds, 1 block and assist) which included an assortment of high flying alley-oops and fast break dunks, the drawing factor was the flamboyant uniform he donned that spectacular evening. At the time the jersey was ridiculed by some for it’s loud colors and obnoxiously large “Chili Pepper” logo (representing the wild Chiltepin chile pepper grown in San Antonio). Ironically, almost 2 decades later, those same features and the legacy left behind by that weekends main event have made the jersey one of the most sought after by many.
Thus when our friends over at Reebok invited us to come up with our own take of Shawn Kemp’s iconic 1996 signature basketball shoe (the Reebok Kamikaze II), finding inspiration for such a collaboration was no-brainer. While the white/navy “All-Star Game” edition Reebok Kamikaze II (re-released earlier this year) Kemp wore IS a classic shoe, it was a rather stark contrast to the swanky design of that years asg jersey. With that in mind, we decided to take a “Why turn down when you can TURN UP” approach in this project…

Exclusive to Packer Shoes, the RTA Kamikaze II is constructed primarily with a cyclone gray pigskin suede, with contrasting steel gray tumbled leather & powder blue nubuck along the entire upper. Additional details include the reign man-font “1996? stitching below the laces with Packer Shoes x Reebok “Chili Pepper” vector logo on top of 3M reflective tongue and heel and “Chili Pepper” Ortholite insoles for additional comfort.

Features include “chili pepper” logo on the front with Mitchell & Ness script branding on the left side and black “1996 NBA All-Star” stitching in the rear with an additional reference patch stitched on the inside displaying the location, date and final score of that years NBA All-Star Game.

Exclusive to our store, we take pride in introducing this extremely limited edition authentic jersey as it is an exact remake of the original one worn by Shawn Kemp in that years’ game. No expense was spared in re-introduciting this baby. Constructed using high-quality cotton mesh with all logos, jersey number and Kemp’s name hand stitched. Additional heritage cues include the February 11, 1996/Shawn Kemp Hardwood Classics patch stitched in the lower left corner of the jersey for authenticity.
