Looking to pay homage to the New Balance MT580 as it celebrates its 20th anniversary they look to their hometown of New Jersey for inspiration. Here we have the Packer Shoes x New Balance MT580 ‘Pine Barrens’ the inspiration for the colorway comes from the New Jersey Pine Barrens but more specifically an urban Legend.

With 2016 being the 20th anniversary of the beloved MT580, we’ve partnered with New Balance to pay our respects to the iconic model with a special edition release tied to our proud New Jersey roots. Embracing the model’s trail-running origins, we looked to the deepest, darkest depths of the New Jersey Pine Barrens, a one million acre forest that sprawls across the southern part of the state.
Within the dense maze of pine trees, NJ’s most infamous urban legend has been known to terrorize unfortunate forest wanderers since the 1700s. While visual evidence of the mythical creature has been scarce, the beast is finally emerging from the darkness in the form of our sneaker homage.
The “Pine Barrens” MT580 draws inspiration from both the forest and its most legendary inhabitant using murky red tones spread across a variety of premium suedes and ballistic mesh. A pine forest graphic adorns the tongue label and inner lining, while 3M accents provide some vibrant pops against the dark red base.
Limited to only 500 pairs worldwide, the shoe will be available exclusively at Packer for $160. In addition to the release of the shoe will be a matching apparel capsule created in partnership with Japanese brand, Lafayette, as a nod to the model’s huge cult popularity in Asia.
Look for the entire collection to release 12 noon EST Friday, March 25th, at both Packer locations and online at PackerShoes.com.
