By now we all should know what this new colorway for the Nike KD VI represents. The “NYC 66” nickname will forever be one of the accomplishments in Durants career and Nike took to their official site to give us brief insight on why. Check it out below.
The world took notice when Kevin Durant scorched the Harlem blacktop scoring 66 points on Aug. 1, 2011. Durant would play against anyone, anywhere, anytime — despite the pro basketball lockout.
“I’ve wanted to play at Rucker Park all my life,” Durant told one of the league’s emcees after his team won the game.
He was just a handful of points away from breaking the all-time park scoring record. The standout performance in New York spoke directly to the versatility of Durant’s game. The NYC appearance also inspired this new KD VI Foot Locker TV ad debuting here for the first time:
Indoor or outdoor, footwork and adaptability are key to KD’s on-court control. These two elements served as key insights for the design of the KD VI.
Inspired by the technical detailing of a precision wristwatch, designer Leo Chang included Nike Flywire, Nike Zoom, Max Air and Hyperfuse construction for a dynamic design. The personalized storytelling comes to life with additional KD VI colorways scheduled to debut in coming months.
The KD VI NYC 66 will be available globally beginning Aug. 17 at select retail locations and Nike.com. The Nike KD Elite Crew Socks matching the KD VI NYC 66 shoe are now available at Nike.com, while the Nike KD Backpack will be available here beginning Aug. 17.
