Considering all the W’s Drake racked in this year, Toronto, Canada or more famously known now as ‘The 6’ is really on the map. To further pay homage to the all the accomplishments as of late from all facets, Nike teams up with a Nike designer with Canadian roots to take the lead on this upcoming Nike Air Max 1 ‘The 6’.
Releasing in Toronto first this weekend and then following up with an US release check out the official Nike press release below and let us know down in the comments your thoughts on this release, will it be a DEF Cop or DEF Not.
For over 20 plus years, the Air Max 1 silhouette has served as a canvas for countless treatments, cementing its status as a footwear and pop-culture icon. Recently, the city of Toronto has also earned pop-culture accolades, thanks to a cultural renaissance that spans sport, music and entertainment. To celebrate the entities’ respective renown and the capital’s celebrity as “The 6,” a reference to the city’s six boroughs, Nike Sportswear tasked a Nike designer with Canadian roots to design a colorway of the shoe that Torontonians can call their own.
The shoe’s Toronto-specific features include rubberized coating on the all-white outsole and airbag. Designed to prevent cracking, it is a first for the Air Max silhouette. Additionally, Tech Tough coated leather, buck leathers, technical woven textiles and a waxed lace, exclusive to this release, help combat cold, wet Canadian winters.
The shoe’s sock liners are inspired by the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, best viewed in the Canadian North, the heart of the Auroral zone. Meanwhile, the graphic on the sock liner features Toronto’s architectural claim to fame: the iconic CN Tower, which stands at the center of the city.
The Air Max 1 “The 6” is available beginning December 6 at Nike.com and select Toronto-area Nike Sportswear retailers and December 17 at select US retailers.
