Ne-Yo may have already participated in a Verzuz battle with Johnta Austin, but he’s left the door open for another chapter in the ongoing music series. During a recent interview at the 2022 BET Awards with New Rory & Mal, Ne-Yo said he’d “happily” participate in another Verzuz battle if the opportunity presented itself. However, he did note that he was unsure who would be an appropriate opponent for his second Verzuz appearance.
“I would absolutely do it, but the question is who?” he asked.
“You know what’s hilarious? Moving around, we’re promoting the album..the whole nine. Every time this comes up, I ask, ‘Who?’ And there’s silence.”
While the world comes up with appropriate opponent for Ne-Yo’s potential return to Verzuz, the R&B star will continue to promote his forthcoming album, Self Explanatory. The 13-track project will be his first solo LP in four years. Self-Explanatory will include contributions from BLEU, Trippie Redd, Jeremih and Zae France. In addition to discussing Verzuz, Ne-Yo offered praise about his album collaborator, BLEU, as well.
“[There’s] something special [about] that kid. He’s taking it easy on people right now. I’ll say that. There’s a whole lot more in there [that’s even better] than what you’ve been given and we dig what we’ve been given. Be on the lookout for that dude,” he said.
Ne-Yo and BLEU’s “Stay Down” will arrive on July 15 along with the rest of Self Explanatory. Check out the complete track list below.
