Fresh off of the Verzuz stage in Los Angeles, Mario has announced that he will be releasing a new single with Tory Lanez on Friday. The forthcoming track is called “Main One” and it has the Baltimore native excited.
“We went crazy! Tap in,” he tweeted.
“Main One” serves as the follow-up to 2021’s “Get Back” with Chris Brown and his first release of 2022. Having built up a bit of momentum following his Verzuz performance, “Main One” could possibly build him back up in the eyes of a new generation. However, it appears that the Baltimore native may have drawn backlash as well. Immediately after announcing his upcoming single, several critics took issue with his decision to work with Tory Lanez.
“Damn, guess this is a summer of disappointing male R&B artists that aren’t named Usher,” Philly Mag Editor-At-Large Ernest Owens tweeted after learning of the collaboration.
“He had the room and didn’t read it,” DJ R-Tistic added.
For years, Tory Lanez has garnered the criticism of music fans across the map. Shortly after the release of his mixtape, The New Toronto III, Tory Lanez was accused of shooting Grammy winner Megan Thee Stallion during an altercation. While the Toronto native maintains that he is not guilty of any wrongdoing, many bystanders believe he is indeed responsible for harming the Houston native. Los Angeles County also levied the following charges against him: assault with a semiautomatic firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle
While a lot has changed over the last few years for Tory Lanez, this is not the first time that he has worked with Mario. Previously, the two collaborated on “The Cry” from Chixtape V. This Friday, the two will look to outdo their previous collaboration with “Main One.” Check out the artwork below.
