Donell Jones has expressed interest in a Verzuz celebration with fellow R&B veteran Joe.
Taking to his Instagram page, the Grammy-winning singer listed qualifications his competitor should meet before naming Joe as a suitable choice.
“They gotta have uptempo [songs]. They gotta have ballads. They gotta have a whole [lot of] sh*t,” said Jones. “[There’s] only one person that I wanna see [and] that’s Joe. The truth is that he’s worthy, so worthy.”
Jones also stated that the battle between him and Joe would be “on some grown man sh*t.”
“[There’s] no disrespect, just love. That’s what we do. We show each other love,” Jones declared. “We ain’t on that bullsh*t [that] these young n*ggas [are] on. [That’s] disrespectful sh*t. Come on, let’s go!”
The proposal comes on the heels of the latest Verzuz matchup between R&B artists Omarion and Mario that took place on June 23. The sold-out battle started with a preshow matchup of Pleasure P and Sammie against Ray J and Bobby V. The Verzuz battle garnered more than 5.1 million viewers.
Songwriter and producer Bryan-Michael Cox co-signed Jones’ suggestion.
“This is actually a great idea. I think it would highlight both of you as producers and songwriters too with the joints y’all made for other artists,” he commented on Jones’ Instagram post.
Joe has not responded to Jones yet. However, Verzuz Co-Founder Swizz Beatz commented on Jones’ post with a series of shocked face emojis and a hands-raised emoji.
Jones replied to Beatz’s comment by saying, “Make it happen.”
