Over the Memorial Day weekend, Netflix has announced that they will begin to cancel inactive subscriptions. Under this plan, the streaming platform will begin contacting subscribers who have not used their accounts in 12 months. They have also started to contact subscribers who have not used their accounts in two years.
“You know that sinking feeling when you realize you signed up for something but haven’t used it in ages? At Netflix, the last thing we want is people paying for something they’re not using,” Netflix stated.
Netflix has said that they have grown their audience to over 180 million subscribers. Among those subscribers, the streaming platform reports that inactive accounts make up less then 1% of their consumers. Those who decided to cancel their inactive accounts can rejoin with their profiles intact if they resubscribe in under 10 months.
