I think it’s pretty clear by now that Netflix is invested in the Space and science fiction realm of TV & Movies. To name a few, there is; Lost in Space, Altered Carbon, Mute, Travellers, The Expanse, Star Trek: Discovery and now Netflix will be added yet another space adventure to that list. Although unnamed, the story will be adapted and inspired by Chris Jones’ Esquire article about humanity’s space exploration and reaching Mars. According to Joe Otterson of Variety news:
Emma Green is an American astronaut who must leave her husband and teenage daughter behind in order to command an international space crew embarking upon a treacherous, year-long mission. Netflix has ordered a 10 episode first season.
The project is set to be helmed and written by both Jason Katims & Matt Reeves. Reeves is most known for his work in the ‘Planet of the Apes’ franchise and his upcoming ‘Batman’ film. While Katims is known for his TV dramas is ‘Rise” & ‘Pure Genius’. Either way, pretty good duo to be brought together to create a space adventure show. One is highly skilled in creating a captivating Drama series and the other is plain good at action adventure movies. Reeves will produce via his 6th & Idaho production company along with Universal Television. The show has only 10 episodes which means Reeves & Katim will have to work under a tight schedule to show the adventures on the mission to Mars.
Traveling to Mars is a feat that humanity has been trying to accomplish for the last decade with Elon Musk claiming we’ll make it there by 2025. There is a lot of expectation’s when it comes to our thirst for space travel but the advancement and technology that we’ve seen in movies, just shows that someday, all this may be possible. I’m here for it. Both virtually & in real life. Sign me up on the first trip to Mars Mr. Musk.
