With the success of Uncle Drew, Lil Rel Howery has experienced large amounts of success this summer and it appears things will get even better in the near future. Reports from a number of sources have indicated that Netflix is the leading bidder for a new series starring Rel, Don Cheadle and Kevin Hart. Netflix is highly interested in the series that is tentatively called Black Stallions.
The comedy is described as comedic depiction of two rival black race jockeys that happen to be brothers. As it stands now, nothing has been confirmed, but the series is believed to be scripted by Uncle Drew‘s Jay Longino. Cheadle and Rel will play the lead roles while Hart will have a recurring role. If finalized, this could be a huge step for Rel who saw his stock rise with Get Out and The Carmichael Show. Cheadle is coming off of the blockbuster hit, Avengers: Infinity War and Kevin Hart is expanding his reach with Hartbeat Productions.
As more news unfolds, we’ll keep you informed. In the meantime, stay tuned for Howery’s first lead role in a television series. His new series, Rel, will be executive produced by Jerrod Carmichael and will premiere on September 9th on Fox.
