The league has witnessed its fourth cycle of the 2019 Major League Baseball Regular Season. Trea Turner, the Washington Nationals shortstop, has completed the cycle in Tuesday night’s contest with the Colorado Rockies. Turner’s cycle is the third cycle in the history of the Nationals franchise, ninth if you count the Montreal Expos in that as well. The most recent cycle this year was Jake Bauers who managed to hit for the cycle against the Detroit Tigers, quickly after Shohei Ohtani became the first Japanese born player to hit for the cycle in league history.

For Turner, this is his second cycle during his young career, coincidentally hitting for the cycle against the Rockies in the 2017 regular season as well. In Tuesday’s contest with the Rockies, Turner lead off the trek with a single in the first inning, followed up by a double in the second inning driving in two runners, a two-run home run in the sixth inning, and then capping it off with a bases loaded triple in the seventh inning. Five of the last ten cycles have occurred at Coors Field on the Rockies home turf, one of the most hitter friendly ballparks in the game.
On the year however, Turner is slashing .276/.335/.464 with 7 home runs with 23 RBI and 20 stolen bags for the Nationals. He has arguably been having one of the colder seasons this year and the Nationals can only hope this is his bounce back game that will get him on track since he has woken up in July as the second half of the season got underway.
