There are so many words that could describe Melanie Fiona but we could truly only use one: incredible. The soulful songstress has a voice that could make mountains come tumbling down and a beauty that is definitely cherished by all. Her everlasting, humble vibe is just one aspect of many that completes her. Melanie is committed to her fans, quite the comedian and overall a lover of her muthaf***in life! And the R&B singer hit the stage of New York’s SOBs last night to share all that and more with her fans.
The Grammy-award winning singer brought down the house with performances of her hit singles, “Wrong Side of the Love Song,” “Somebody Come Get Me” and many more. On top of that she covered Drake’s “Started From The Bottom” and Wale’s “Bad” which she has previously covered on YouTube and yes, they have become extremely popular. One of the best moments of the show is when Melanie broke into her West Indian roots and gave the crowd a nice Reggae performance to groove to. The live band gave the show a genuine feeling and left Melanie with the opportunity to shine as she deserves to.

Melanie Fiona x Def Pen Radio Interview
DFP: Do you have any upcoming projects?
MF: My new album which I’m working on. I’m going to be releasing music really soon. There will be a track for the summer for sure. I’m very excited about it. I’m going to be on the road doing some shows; some might be acoustic, some might be full band shows, promoting the MF Life. Just music. Just expect music. You might have to pay for it, you might not. I just want to get it out there!
DFP: How do you feel you can top the success of MF Life?
MF: I’ve grown so much as a person. I’ve grown so much as an artist. The music I’m making because of that growth is just greater than anything I’ve ever done. I’m happier. I’m in a better place as an artist. Better songwriting. More musical. More creatively involved. I feel like to be able to be even more so involved in my projects that’s how I’m going to be able to top it. Just to keep growing.
DFP: What would you like your fans to get out of your music?
MF: Love! Love! I want them to get love out of the music and I said that upstairs. I feel like love is the universal theme of everything. We were not talking about the club or turning up, were talking about love; everyone is. It’s the reason we do everything we do. I feel like I want them to get love and strength from my music. I want them to be more ok and secure with who they are as people. To know that they are not alone and to know that theres people out there that are going through the same thing they are going through. It’s really just about love, strength and positivity.
DFP: What is your favorite song to cover right now?
MF: My favorite song to cover right now has to be “Bad” by Wale because I did it and I loved it and then people loved it. That’s my favorite right now. I’m actually working on some Kendrick stuff. I’m going to do a new cover soon! I love covering Hip-Hop songs because I love Hip-Hop and I think it’s so much more fun because nobody is really expecting you to sound like someone. You could make it sound how ever you want it to sound and it really brings out artistry.
DFP: Speaking of Hip-Hop, who would you like to collaborate with in Hip-Hop?
MF: Kendrick. The end.
DFP: Is there anything coming up featuring him?
MF: I’m working on it. I’m just going to keep putting it out there.
DFP: I’m going to talk to him, see what I can do!
MF: He’s like super busy right now. I know he’s on tour. Once he gets off tour, he’s going to record so I’m just going to rush one of his studio sessions and just be like, “Hey! Let’s make a song!”
