Eddie Hearn’s roster at Matchroom Boxing continues to expand. Moments before Saul “Canelo” Alvarez was set to enter the ring at Estadio Akron in Jaslico, Mexico, 2020 Olympic Gold Medalist Andy Cruz formally joined the team at Matchroom Boxing. Cruz is a 2020 Olympic Gold Medalist who is most well known for his victories against lightweight contender Keyshawn Davis.
“We got him,” a message from Matchroom Boxing reads.
“The lightweight division is on notice.”
At 27 years old, Cruz enters a crowded lightweight division that currently includes Davis, Shakur Stevenson, Devin Haney and Vasyl Lomachenko. Within Matchroom Boxing, Eddie Hearn currently works with the likes of Maxi Hughes, Angel Fierro, Campbell Hatton and Gary Cully. Additionally, Matchroom Boxing is home to super lightweight champions and contenders like Regis Prograis, Richardson Hitchins, Montana Love, Jack Catterall and Steve Spark.
Eddie Hearn has not only signed Andy Cruz this week, but he has also picked up the aforementioned Regis Prograis. Days after signing with his new promotional outfit, the New Orleans native announced that he would return home to fight Liam Paro June 17 at the Smoothie King Center. Unlike Prograis, it is unclear when Cruz will make his debut with Matchroom Boxing.
