Mariah Carey may be moving one step closer to grabbing a Tony Award. Deadline has revealed that the chart-topping musician has boarded the production team of the Broadway musical comedy, Some Like It Hot.
“When Neil Meron shared this new take on the beloved film,” Carey said in a statement, per Deadline.
“I knew I had to be a part of it. To see how this show continues to expand on the film’s legacy – pushing boundaries, promoting inclusion, celebrating diversity – I’m proud to help bring Some Like It Hot for today’s world to new audiences.”
Carey’s latest endeavor is inspired by a 1959 comedy featuring Marilyn Monroe. The film follows the story of two men who work their way into an all-female musical group after witnessing a mob hit. However, the two get more than they bargained for along the way.
“I first became familiar with this story through the timeless film starring Marilyn Monroe,” Carey said, per Deadline.
“She’s been an important touchstone throughout my life, so much so that I acquired her treasured baby grand white piano at an auction.”
Some Like It Hot is currently in the preview stage at Shubert Theatre in Manhattan. Two weeks before Christmas, Carey and company will bring the production to Broadway.
