The Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons were the first teams to get things going on trade deadline week with a big deal that sent Tobias Harris to the Pistons for Brandon Jennings and Ersan Ilyasova. The Magic are not quite done yet though as they also are kicking the tires on a potential deal sending Channing Frye out of Orlando to a contender.
With the Magic wheeling and dealing some of their assets, there are young pieces that some teams possibly covet. Elfrid Payton, Mario Hezonja, Aaron Gordon, Victor Oladipo, Evan Fournier and Nikola Vucevic look ripe for the taking from the suddenly selling Orlando Magic but the team isn’t looking to deal any of their young core.
Following from Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel.
Evan Fournier, Aaron Gordon, Mario Hezonja, Victor Oladipo, Elfrid Payton and Nik Vucevic aren’t going anywhere.
The Orlando Magic will not trade any member of their young nucleus before this season’s NBA trade deadline expires on Thursday afternoon, general manager Rob Hennigan told the Orlando Sentinel tonight.
The only way that changes is if another team swoops in and makes an offer the Magic can’t refuse. But no offer of that kind is likely.
There has been plenty of rumors recently about Orlando shipping Vucevic, Gordon and Oladipo out for some established players but it appears that Orlando is not looking to do that. Instead they want to clear cap space to set up for a big summer in 2016 to try and get piece to supplement their holes as their young stars develop.
