Four-time GRAMMY Award winner Lionel Richie is reportedly “stable” after he was hospitalized following his show in St. Louis, Missouri, on Saturday, August 30.
The legendary singer’s health has concerned his friends and fans in recent months. In June, Richie performed at Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota, with Earth, Wind & Fire. During the concert, he told those in attendance that he was dizzy and sat down as he performed hits like “Dancing on the Ceiling” and “Three Times a Lady.” Shortly thereafter, Richie announced an intermission and headed backstage. Approximately 40 minutes later, saxophonist Dino Soldo told the crowd that Richie would not be able to continue.
“Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well,” he said, according to the Minnesota Star-Tribune. “He won’t be able to continue. Additional information will be available.”
Following the show in St. Paul, two additional stops on the tour were postponed before he returned to the stage on June 30. Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire went on to finish their tour, wrapping up at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, on August 14, 2026.
Just over two weeks later, he set out for his first show since the tour. At The Muny in St. Louis on Saturday, fans told FOX 2 Now in Missouri that the singer was in “high spirits throughout the evening,” but “appeared to struggle toward the end of Saturday night’s show and asked for a chair while performing the final song.” After the concert, TMZ reports that the GRAMMY Award winner checked himself into a nearby hospital out of an abundance of caution. The outlet reports that he remains hospitalized in the ICU for “cardiac issues,” as of September 1.
