Latto has been quite busy over the last few weeks. She’s collaborated with Mariah Carey, appeared at the 2022 BET Awards and worked on “Mind Yo’ Business” with Lakeyah. With all of that going on, the rising artist found her way back into the studio to work on a new single.
Latto’s new single, “P*ssy,” is produced by Johnny Goldstein and dives into the realm of social issues. In a series of tweets, Latto explained that the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and open the door for restrictive abortion policies to be reinstated was the catalyst for the record. From start to finish, she offers her thoughts on the matter while taking aim at misogyny and the marginalization of women in everyday society.
“All up in them comments talkin’ ’bout some p*ssy that you never touched/F*ck you and your double standards, p*ssy ain’t for you to judge,” she raps.
Latto’s single has not been well received by all. Shortly after sharing the track, several onlookers felt that it was in poor taste for the artist to use “serious issues to promote” her music. As expected, the rapper took issue with the notion that she was simply using the issue to promote her music.
“I took my frustrations to the booth like a rapper [and I am] using my platform to spread awareness,” she tweeted.
In addition to replying to fans, she also indicated that she’d be donating the proceeds from her single to charity. However, she did not specify which charity she’d donate to or how much she would be donating.
Latto has demonstrated that she can climb her way up the charts, deliver on the awards stage and craft a successful album. Now, she plans to offer her voice on a matter of importance. Check out how she lent her voice to the matter below on her new single, “P*ssy.”
