Galloway, a 24-year old guard who went undrafted in 2014, most recently played for the New York Knicks last season. Galloway had spent a season with the Knicks’ D-League affiliate, the Westchester Knicks, before being called up to the main roster in 2015.
A pair of 10-day contracts ultimately jump-started the career of Langston Galloway, as the Knicks later decided to sign him for the remainder of the 2014-’15 season. Galloway was a small beam of hope in the fans of New York at the time who were forced to watch one of the worst Knick teams in NBA history play night after night.
Averaging 11.8 points and 4.2 rebounds in 45 appearances in his first season as a pro, Galloway was named to the NBA All-Rookie 2nd Team.
Last season, Galloway saw a decrease in minutes as the season wore on. With the Knicks trading for Derrick Rose and signing other guards this summer, Galloway’s services were no longer coveted. Running out of cap space, the Knicks decided to rescind its qualifying offer to Galloway last week, ultimately making him an unrestricted free agent. While the Knicks originally were hopeful of re-signing him, in the present day, it makes sense for both sides to split apart and move on from each other.
Galloway joins a New Orleans team that’s been headlined with injuries over the past two seasons, along with the recent free agent departure of Eric Gordon. Galloway will help fill in the void left by Gordon’s absence, along with providing some much-needed backcourt depth with Jrue Holiday, Buddy Hield, and others.
Playing in all 82 games with the Knicks last season, Galloway averaged 7.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per contest.
