It’s a sweep!
On Sunday, February 4, 2024, Michael “Killer Mike” Render’s Michael earned Best Rap Album honors at the 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards. The album’s standout single, “Scientists & Engineers” featuring Andre 3000 and Eryn Allen Kane, won the Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance categories.
“For all the people out there that think you get too old to rap, bullsh*t. I don’t give a damn if you’re 78 rapping about how many gals you got in the nursing home, make sure we keep hip-hop alive,” the 48-year-old Atlanta native told the crowd during the 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards Premiere Ceremony.
Killer Mike previously received a GRAMMY Award in 2003 for his contributions to “The Whole World” by Outkast, but he had never won a GRAMMY Award for his solo work until now. The Outkast affiliate received praise from Big Boi moments after receiving the award.
“Congrats Killer Mike on sweeping all 3 nominations…yes sir ! Proud of you brother,” he tweeted.
Only one major rap category, Best Melodic Rap Performance, was not awarded to the veteran MC. J. Cole and Lil’ Durk were recognized for their inspiring hit record, “All My Life.” The duo’s single ousted a number of deserving nominees, including “Low” by SZA and “Spin Bout U” by Drake and 21 Savage.
