On Sunday, February 4, 2024, Coco Jones will make her way to Crypto.com Arena for the 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards. The Nashville native is nominated in five categories at this year’s ceremony, including Best New Artist and Best R&B Performance. However, her year won’t stop there. The Bel-Air actress also has her sights set on the release of her forthcoming album. During a recent conversation with Brooke LaMantia of The Cut, she opened up about the project.
“I feel like my EP was like my freshman year of high school. I was learning so much and was unsure of how people would perceive me, how my project would do, and who my fans would be. I did a lot of trial and error, releasing a bunch of different songs that are in different fields and taking in that information for the future,” she explained.
“Now I feel like I have a lot of information, and I have more experience with releasing music. As for the inspiration, a lot of that comes from what’s going on in the stage of life that I’m in with my friends and the conversations that we have, while also being intentional with how I want my show to feel. Having that concept in mind and a tour in mind really helps me pick the songs that I want on my album so I can control the narrative of my show. And I want to make a lot more music that is up-tempo and mid-tempo.”
Jones did not identify who she may be working with leading up to the album, but she did mention that she would like to collaborate with Drake or 21 Savage in the future.
“I definitely want to do a song with a rapper where I’m like singing the cute little hook. I love that combination. I feel like that’s so nostalgic to do. I think a lot of rappers are dope: 21 [Savage], Drake, Future Young Thug. My gym playlist is very trap, so I could really go there,” Jones told Jessica McKinney of Complex.
As for a release date, nothing is set in stone, but Jones is hoping to put new music out during the summer.
“Ideally, I would love to have my album come out this summer,” she told LaMatia.
“I want my music out there while the weather’s warm and people are outside to dance.”
