Kickin’ It With Def Pen: Wear Your Kicks Pt. 4

  • April 9, 2014
  • Cordell Little

Officially one month in. Welcome to the 4th installment to Kickin’ It With Def Pen: Wear Your Kicks.

Last Wednesday as stated in the recap was by far the best #WYKW that we have seen. You guys definitely brought your A game.

Having so many people take part in this weekly showcase of their kicks is a great feeling because the intentions of this is exactly that, for the people to have a platform in which they can display their sneakers as well as network within the hashtag.

Last weeks first submission was of a high magnitude by Ak (@IcebergAk) who displayed the Nike LeBron 9 Elite “Miami Vice”. So you would think how can that be followed up? Well, Def Pen Radio’s own Dame (@DameStr8Cash) stepped up to the plate.

Dame who I have mentioned in my first two Wear Your Kicks installments has a story that I remember rather clear after reading it.

This was around time where he broke his chill button and was copping out or like he would say “Cop Out or Shut Up”.

For this weeks, Kickin’ It With Def Pen: Wear Your Kicks Pt. 4 we have for you a story and some of Dame’s personal pictures of his LeBron 9’s.. Oh yeah, plural because its not just 1 or 2 BUT 3. Yes 3 pairs; “Cannons”, “Chinas” and “Christmas Days”.

*Side note* If you don’t remember when these dropped then you will see what makes them so special.

Lets get into it.

Triple C’s.

Hahahaha December 2011 was a pretty busy one for me.

“Cannon”, “China” & “Christmas Day” (hence ‘Triple C’s) LeBron 9’s all purchased without a hassle. The good ol’ days of copping kicks.

Well first things first, the “Cannons” dropped December 3rd. They had some type of hype around them but whether they were “limited” or a GR (general release) I just know they sat for a little longer than expected.

I got these on the first day of the release, called my moms told her to pick them up for me.

So now I’m fresh out of a job orientation rushing home and when I get home to try them on they didn’t fit. So now this “limited”/”GR” shoe is gone, yes gone on the first day & now I have to go all around the Bronx looking for my size.

Weeks later they pop up again & sit. (Yeah I was slightly pissed.) No one wants to go searching hard for a shoe and then weeks later after searching they drop again and just sit. You feel as if you wasted your time.

Now onto the China 9, such a beautiful sight to see.

As the date December 17th (yup 2 weeks later) was slowly approaching I had been scoping out the spots that were getting them since I had to work that day, two hours after they released to be exact.

I got to 34th street HoH (House of Hoops) around 5:30-6 that morning, the line wasn’t bad at all, especially for a limited shoe. Now as the store is about to open people wanted to act like idiots, which slows down the purchase & I still have to be at work down the block in two hours.

There were a few parents complaining about skipping, but the sneaker gods weren’t on their side.

I got my pair bounced & made it back to work on 34th all within ninety minutes.

Nine days later, December 26th, Christmas 9, fairly easy purchase, poop compared to the Xmas 8V.2 & 10 I must say. Me & my homie Ty got down there round 6 to a almost packed line at HoH. Ty went off to 34th Footlocker & there was literally no line at all.

This was the easiest purchase of them all, but just like the China release, I had to be to work right after the release so I left my kicks with Ty for the day.

I just want to thank all of you who partake in #WYKW & #WYK. Appreciate y’all, keep the heat coming.
