Last week was our very first video submission for Wear Your Kicks which was provided by D Black (@DBlackCBC via twitter and instagram). With seeing that video just goes to show we are progressing each week so why stop now.
After giving us a story on a pair of kicks – Air Jordan 11 Retro ‘Concords’ – that had a striking resemblance to the one I shared about my pair, I was almost sure a follow up would be hard to do…..
…..that was until fellow Def Pen writer and former participant for Kickin’ It With Def Pen, Dame said he had a story to share, I knew this could be a great way to follow up D Blacks video.
If you have seen Dames’ prior submissions you should know he doesn’t share with us just 1 sneaker, he doesn’t like to be modest. So without further adieu, lets get into this story…
Disregard the photobomb from the Kobe shoe in the back, LOL.
Ahhh, Wear Your Kicks Wednesday. The day people always seem to bring out the heat. Well I have a story to tell. *queues BIG’s beat*
These two kicks crack me up still to this day. The Scoring Titles and Texas KD 4’s. Let me start out with saying, I wasn’t one for the whole KD 4 hype, in-fact, I actually called them whack a few times. But boy did that change when the YOTD 4’s dropped. I saw the shoes potential. Anyway, besides the mumble jumble, as the NBA season ended, we all knew Nike had something in store if KD won that scoring title and he showed up, boy. Once the NBA announced KD was the scoring champ, then Nike followed up announcing the scoring title 4’s, phew, the hype was way up.

Nike threw out a release date for them and hit them with the RSVP(RIP to that crap) cheese. So check it, I had a super busy day ahead of me, I had to take trains to Brooklyn from the Bronx, quite a long ride when you want a shoe. Soon as I get off the train, I see NikeNYC hadn’t done the RSVP yet and I was going to a job interview. Now I’m praying to the sneaker gods that Nike doesn’t do the RSVP while I’m in that interview cause who knows what I would’ve done lol. The damn near hour long interview comes and goes and less than 15 minutes after I leave, the RSVP is open. Prior to this RSVP, I was Shaq from the free throw line, but that day, I was MJ in game 6, Swish!

Now the Texas KD 4? Oh lawd, this was top three easiest purchase of all time. Shouts to the judicial system on this one too. I was sent them jury duty papers for a cool three years straight and it wasn’t until 2012 I decided to actually go. Longest two days of my life I might have to say. Day one spent the whole day draining my phones battery & day two, well, you guessed it! Did the same thing.
Two-three weeks pass by, I get that good ol $80 check. I deposited that joint so quick and spent it before it cleared. Texas KDs were definitely worth that $95.
That’s my WYK story, folks. Stay up, pray to the sneaker gawds & cop out every chance you get. Deuces.
