When Kevin Durant made the decision to join the Golden State Warriors two offseason ago, a lot perceived it as him taking the easy route towards a championship but these last two years have proved otherwise.

Durant and his Warriors won the Finals last season and did so again in the 2018 NBA Finals, making quick work of the Cleveland Cavaliers en route to a 4-game sweep. However, instead of being carried to his championship as many perceived, Finals MVP voters saw Durant as the difference maker both years, as he took home the 2018 Finals MVP award after earning that same honor just a year prior.

Though many argued that it could’ve and should’ve been Stephen Curry winning his first Finals MVP award, Durant as simply sensational in almost every game this series. Though Curry pieced together an incredible Game 4 performance to the tune of 37 points, it was Durant who consistently turned in stellar performance after stellar performance.

Durant showed up especially when Curry fell flat in an all-important Game 3, posting a monster 43 points when the rest of his teammates couldn’t find their rhythm. The explosive forward averaged 28.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 7.5 assists in the Finals. You can watch Durant discuss his second straight Finals MVP award below.
