Few artists transitioned into the mainstream spotlight during the COVID-19 pandemic quite like Kaytranada. While many listeners were looking for some music to keep them upbeat and optimistic, the Haitian-Canadian record producer and DJ did just that. Not only did he deliver a three-track EP that has endless replay value, but he also remixed Normani’s “Wild Side” and worked on Tinashe’s 333. His most recent album, Bubba, also earned him his first Grammy awards and set him up for his current role as an opener for The Weeknd’s world tour. With all of the momentum in the world coupled with a revived mainstream interest in dance music, Kaytranada is seemingly gearing up to release his third studio album.
Kaytranada has delivered an excellent gift on a bright, sunny day. Working alongside Anderson .Paak, the Grammy-winning producer has unloaded a new track called “Twin Flame.” Falling in line with his most recent EP, the track maximizes the use of its drums and incorporates the sound of waves in a blissful manner.
“Ha, you always?got?some way around?it/You never had to pay for?ganja/You always got the waves around ya/You’re surfing with the jay in your mouth/In the barrel with the shade around ya, ha,” Anderson .Paak raps.
“You’ll always be the same as I am/You pretty with the brain and all that/You even give me brains and all that/You love me ’til I’m gray and ornery.”
In addition to delivering the “Twin Flame” video, Kaytranada teased a new track with Childish Gambino during a recent set. It’s unclear when the track will drop, but it’s clear that he has a few hits in the vault. For now, we’ll enjoy “Twin Flame” featuring Anderson .Paak.
