It’s official! Kanye West and Drake will come together on December 9 for a Larry Hoover benefit concert on December 9 at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
“I believe this event will not only bring awareness to our cause but prove to people everywhere how much more we can accomplish when we lay our pride aside and come together,” Kanye West said about the benefit concert.
Within the last few years, West has advocated for Hoover to receive clemency. In 1997, he was found guilty of murder, extortion and money laundering among other crimes before being sentenced to six life sentences. Years later, there is hope that Hoover could spend the remainder of his life with his family thanks to the First Step Act. Introduced in 2018, the act allows those who have been convicted of crack-cocaine offenses to challenge their sentences.
“This is a 70-year-old man in the twilight of his years who has serious medical complications and is seeking release to finally be with his wife, children, and grandchildren after nearly 50 years of separation,” Hoover’s attorney, Justin Moore, told NewsOne.
Unfortunately, no judge has offered a ruling on Hoover’s request to challenge his sentence. With this concert, West, Drake and several of Hoover’s family members hope to bring more awareness to his case and others like it.
