Josiah James, a tall six-foot six-inch lefty point guard from South Carolina has committed to Tennessee. Rick Barnes was known for bringing in elite talent to Texas during his time in Austin. Entering his fourth year in Knoxville he has now brought in his first five-star recruit. Guards win in March is the old saying and with Rick Barnes getting a five-star point guard in his class of 2019 he should be able to continue the rise his program has found itself in the last year or so. His Volunteers squad broke on the scene last year and brought back just about every relevant piece. Most of those pieces may still be on the roster when James arrives on campus.
James’ game gives him the chance to be an immediate impact player as a freshman. At his height and build he will be physically ready as a freshman something that is huge when projecting high school players transition to the next level. James has a nice mid-range pull-up game that should allow him to thrive against smaller guards. Josiah James was a surpise committ for the Vols as most expected Clemson was the favorite here. The lefty point guard hails from South Carolina and grew up about three hours from Clemson’s campus. This is the second high level recruit from South Carolina that Clemson has missed out on in the last two classes, the other being Zion Williamson. At the same time this is a huge coup for Rick Barnes and as the success of his team grows more could follow.
