Teofimo Lopez is set to challenge Josh Taylor for the WBO Super Lightweight Championship on June 10, 2023 at Madison Square Garden. Lopez enters the bout after putting together a somewhat lackluster performance against Sandor Martin. Similarly, Taylor enters the championship fight after securing a controversial decision win against Jack Catterall and enduring several injuries. In short, both men are entering what could be one of the biggest fights of their careers. Per usual, Lopez is exuding confidence heading into the fight. On the other end, Taylor is exuding the same level of confidence heading into the fight. Sitting ringside at the Prudential Center a few days ago, Taylor shared his prediction for the fight.
“My fight with Teofimo Lopez ends up the same way, except it’s me knocking him out,” he told ESPN.
“I’m completely 100% confident that this fight doesn’t go past six to eight rounds.”
The outcome of the upcoming fight will have a profound impact on the Super Lightweight division. Taylor holds the WBO title while Rolando Romero is set up to fight Ismael Barroso for the WBA Super Lightweight Championship next month. Not to be forgotten, Regis Prograis and Subriel Matias hold the division’s other two titles.
