The Philadelphia Eagles have signed defensive end Josh Sweat to a three-year contract extension worth $40 million. Sweat was selected by the Eagles in the 4th round of the 2018 NFL Draft. This move helps secure the Eagles’ defensive line while they determine exactly what they want their offense to look like in the coming years. The deal could be worth up to $43 million and includes $26.9 million in guaranteed money. Josh Sweat, 24, was in the final year of his rookie deal but is now signed with the team through the 2024 season.

Sweat is in his fourth NFL season, and so far he has accumulated some solid numbers on the field. With the Eagles, he has 66 combined tackles and 41 solo tackles. Josh Sweat has also recorded 16 tackles for a loss, 23 quarterback hits, and ten sacks. He recorded six tackles in the sole regular-season game this year with the Eagles. His role on the defense should continue to grow this year as long as he has the coaching staff’s trust.

This is a solid extension by the Eagles who are in an average at best NFC East. The goal for this team is to try and win the division. Considering the division’s performance last year, that isn’t an impossible task. Josh Sweat has his long-term deal and can now focus on getting on the field and helping his team win some games. A good deal for both sides.
